Storage Stories: Staff Sergeant Joseph Christie

Meet Oregon Air National Guard Staff Sergeant Joseph Christie. Joe is storing his belongings at our West Coast Self-Storage Vancouver location. We asked Joe why he needed storage and he was gracious enough to give us his story.

Initially I sold my house in Vancouver, WA in March of 2017. During the closing of my house I was tasked with deploying to Romania from June through October 2017 for Russian Deterrence. I had a house full of furniture, tools, pictures, etc. that would not fit in the apartment I was temporarily staying in until I deployed. I was looking for a storage unit that was climate controlled and secure from outsiders. I have a lot of items I’ve collected from 47 different countries and didn’t want them to be ruined by insects, mold, or get stolen.

I met Gary while checking out several different storage facilities and liked everything about it. Of the other locations this was the only one that had everything I was looking for. I told Gary my situation, roughly how much stuff I had, and how long I was planning on being gone and he helped pick out the best unit for my needs. The price was great, the area was great, and I felt totally comfortable leaving my possessions in his care. So, I moved my items there and deployed to Romania.

During my first month in Romania I was then tasked with deploying to Afghanistan from January 2019 to October 2019 in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. When I returned from Romania I spoke to Gary about my new situation and he assured me that there was no problem with staying longer, and that my things would remain safe and undamaged. He helped me set up automatic payments for my account, since I would be unreachable for possibly months at a time. We are currently looking for a house in order to move our possessions out of storage

Now, with the upcoming wildland firefighting, they are expecting us to be on the fire line for at least a month, so it’s looking like we will be storing our things with Gary and West Coast Self Storage at least until I return from that.

My experience with Gary and the West Coast Storage team has been nothing short of fantastic from the very beginning, and with as much as they have helped me through everything, I’m happy to do anything to help their business.
