Lacey, Washington History

Lacey, Washington was originally established as a suburb of Olympia, but is now its own city. The area was settled back in 1853, and was originally known for its cattle, milk, and forest products industries. Today it’s known for its large industrial park sporting millions of square footage and home to distribution centers for Target, Home Depot, ULine and Harbor Wholesale Foods. The city has over 55,000 residents and is home to one of the northwest’s first indoor malls, South Sound Center. The town has three higher education institutions, Saint Martin’s University, Charter College and the South Puget Sound Community College Lacey Campus. Residents love living here because of its great geographic location near Puget Sound as well as its access to miles of hiking and biking trails in the nearby national wildlife refuge or in nearby Cascade Mountains.
