West Coast Self-Storage Partners with StorageDefender to Bring Smart Units to Nearly 170 Locations

West Coast Self-Storage is proud to announce a new partnership with StorageDefender Inc., the pioneer of Smart Units-as-a-service. Through this agreement, we are standardizing Smart Unit and Smart Zone monitoring across our portfolio of nearly 170 locations, with the rollout continuing through Q4 2026.

This collaboration perfectly aligns with our rigorous standards for deploying outside technology. “We evaluate every technology decision through the lens of what it does for our owners and our customers,” said John Eisenbarth, Chief Operating Officer of West Coast Self-Storage. “StorageDefender Smart Units delivered on both counts at our locations… standardizing across the portfolio was an obvious decision”.

The partnership is built on a shared commitment to enhancing the self-storage ecosystem seamlessly. “West Coast Self-Storage has been a true partner in this from the start, and I’m excited for what we build together from here,” added Mark Cieri, CEO of StorageDefender.

What This Means for Our Customers

While our facilities are already protected by standard features like fences, gates, and cameras, those measures stop at the door. StorageDefender closes that visibility gap by bringing security directly into your individual space.

Driven by tenant demand, this service puts control and visibility right in your hands. Here is how the new system benefits you:

  • Real-Time Monitoring: You can stay connected to your unit with real-time text alerts any time activity is detected inside your space.
  • Simple, Non-Invasive Setup: The wireless devices mount magnetically inside the unit in about 15 seconds, requiring no wiring or electrical outlets.
  • Affordable Peace of Mind: For $15 per month, you gain a personal, tangible layer of protection for your belongings.
During our initial pilot program, 6 out of 10 tenants chose to enroll in the Smart Unit service to keep a closer eye on their items.

As we roll this out across our five-state portfolio over the coming months, we invite you to ask your local facility manager about upgrading your space with a StorageDefender Smart Unit.
