Moving Truck Rental Tips
Get the Right Size
The first step in renting a moving truck is determining the correct size of truck or van that you’ll need. If are you moving only a small number of items, you’ll want to rent a pickup or van. If you’ve got a studio or small 1-bedroom apartment or condo, a 10’ foot truck should suffice. If you’ve got a larger, 2-bedroom apartment, a 15’ foot truck will most likely work for you. For 2-and 3-bedroom homes, you’ll want to think about renting either a 17’ or 20’ foot truck. For larger homes with 3-4 bedrooms, consider renting the largest 26’ foot moving truck.
Plan Your Day
If you plan to move all in one day, be sure to reserve and pick up your moving vehicle as early in the day as possible so that you can return the truck or van back to the dealer prior to their closing. This will save you from having to rent the truck for additional days.
Reserve Early
We can’t stress this enough. If you plan on moving and know when you are doing so, it’s imperative to reserve your truck or van as soon as you can. This will ensure that the correct size of vehicle will be available at a close-by location.
Pack Strategically
You’ll want to plan out how you load your moving truck in order to ensure that you’ve maximized the space and minimized shifting while on the road. We recommend using a layering approach where you put heavier items such as furniture and appliances on the lower layers, followed by boxes and small items on top.
