For any successful move, you need to prepare and be organized. Here are 10 tips to help your upcoming move be as stress free as possible. Moving doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Follow these tips to make your smooth move.

Get boxes

Packing is a key part of moving. Start collecting boxes from supermarkets or other stores at least a week before your scheduled move. Make sure you get a variety of sizes and get as many as you can. You don’t want to run out of boxes in the middle of packing.

Avoid busy times

Summer time is moving time. Generally May to September is the main moving season. Moving companies are aware of this and so prices are typically 30-40% higher during moving season. Weekends are another prime moving time. If you can schedule a weekday move or a move between October and April, you can move for a great price. Always check on rates and availability before scheduling your big moving day.

Get help

When you move you need help whether from professional movers or family and friends. Professional movers have all the necessary equipment to make your move efficient and safe. When you move with professionals there’s less chance of damages and injuries. Family and friends are free but you might have to convince them. Invite them to help move or pack with the reward of a meal.

Organize

Moving boxes and packing suppliesPacking can quickly become unorganized and hectic. Organize boxes by category to make it easier to unpack later. Pack breakables carefully and in the same box. Heavy objects like books should always be packed in small boxes.

Storage

If you have a gap between your move out and move in dates or just have too much stuff, you need a place to store your belongings. Consider renting a storage unit to keep your things temporarily. Make sure you arrange storage before moving day so you’re not left with a last minute storage emergency.

Schedule your truck/van rental

Scheduling your moving vehicle in advance is always best and sometimes you can get discounts. If you wait until the last minute, trucks might be unavailable on your planned moving day. Try to plan your moving day and truck rental one month in advance. This is especially advisable when you are scheduling professional movers along with your truck rental.

Clear out excess

When you move houses, take advantage by donating or throwing out unwanted items. Donate items in good repair or see if your local city has pickup services for your unwanted belongings.

Take inventory

Number your boxes. Make a list of items while packing. Cross check that list upon arrival at your new house. This helps you pack up everything and find what you need after the move.

Remember the details

Moving means you need to change your address with utilities, financial accounts, cable, internet, etc. You also need to update voter registration and/or DMV information. You don’t want your mail getting sent to your old house.

Summary

Don’t make your move stressful. Planning ahead ensures moving day is smooth and hassle free. Still need help? Contact Two Men And A Moving Van for all your moving needs at: 253-215-1850.
